The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office made an employment offer to a new Corrections Operations Bureau Chief Deputy Sheriff.

Timothy Lanquist’s start date is yet to be determined, pending the hiring process according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office utilized a firm, through the Monterey County Human Resources Department, to conduct a national recruitment.

Lanquist has spent nearly 30 years in public service, first serving in the military before going into law enforcement. He has a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Master of Science in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Lanquist served in the Navy for six years and worked in several leadership roles including Naval Academy Sports Information Officer, Recruit Training Division Officer, Manpower Officer and Assistant Director of Military Training at the Navy’s boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois.

Lanquist started his law enforcement career back in 2001 with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. During his tenure he rose to the rank of captain and worked in court services, custody, patrol, property crimes and as a sexual assault investigator.

His last assignment was as the East County Patrol Captain in Thousand Oaks, where he was responsible for managing patrol resources and daily operations. Lanquist also managed the agency’s field training program and spent 14 years as a member and supervisor on the tactical response team.

In addition to his resume, Lanquist is a member of the Academy of Correctional Health Professionals, California Jail Program Administrators, American Jail Association, National Commission on Correctional Health Care and the California Sate Sheriff’s Association.

“We are fortunate that Tim has decided to join the MCSO family,” Nieto said in a press statement.

“I ask everyone to help us in welcoming Tim to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, the county family and to all our local communities.”
