Resident of Santa Clara

Born December 18, 1929 to Samuel H. Winklebleck and Violet (Curran) Winklebleck. The Winklebleck family lived in Redwood City where Sam attended Mount Carmel School, then commuted by train to Bellarmine College Preparatory School in San Jose (class of 1947), before studying at Santa Clara University, graduating with a B.A. in 1951. Entered the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1951, spending two years after graduation on patrol in the Pacific. Copy Editor for The Wall Street Journal, 1955-1990. In retirement, Sam spent his time and talents volunteering for several local organizations, including Catholic Charities and Second Harvest Food Bank, and his leisure traveling, hiking and biking, and theater-going.

Loving husband to June (Gronroos) 1957-1981 (dec.), proud and loving father to Beth and Sam, dear husband to Mary Walsh Winklebleck (m. 1983), much-loved brother to Sharon Ann Coles. Long-time, devoted member of the 10AM Community at Mission Santa Clara.

Funeral Mass at Mission Santa Clara: Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. Lunch to follow at Adobe Lodge.
