Saquon Barkley will become the highest-paid running back in NFL history after his record-setting season helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl.
The Eagles are giving Barkley a two-year contract extension worth $41.2 million with $36 million guaranteed, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the extension hasn’t been announced, said Barkley’s new deal includes $15 million in incentives.
Barkley ran for 2,504 yards in the regular season and playoffs, breaking Terrell Davis’ record for most yards rushing combined in one season. He had 2,005 yards in the regular season before sitting out the final game with a chance to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season mark.
The Eagles signed Barkley to a three-year, $37.75 million deal in free agency last year after the New York Giants allowed the 2018 No. 2 overall pick to walk away.
Jets release wide receiver Adams
Davante Adams’ reunion with Aaron Rodgers lasted just 11 games with the New York Jets.
The team released the veteran wide receiver ahead of the start of the NFL’s new league year next week.
The move, which was expected, will save the Jets $29.9 million in salary cap space. It follows the team’s announcement on Feb. 13 that they’re also moving on this offseason from Rodgers, Adams’ longtime teammate and friend.
Releasing Adams will cost the Jets $8.3 million in dead-cap money, according to overthecap.com.
Cowboys, Odighizuwa agree on $80M contract
The Dallas Cowboys and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa agreed Tuesday on an $80 million, four-year contract with $58 million guaranteed, his agent said.
The agreement came a few hours before the deadline for clubs to apply the franchise tag on one player. Odighizuwa was a consideration for the $25 million tag for defensive tackles. Agent Sam Leaf Ireifej confirmed the deal to the Associated Press. It includes a $20 million signing bonus.
The Cowboys also agreed to a one-year deal with special teams ace C.J. Goodwin and restructured star receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract to create $20 million in salary cap space. Lamb signed a $136 million, four-year deal last year.
McManus in Green Bay for 3 more years
Kicker Brandon McManus is staying with the Green Bay Packers after agreeing to a three-year, $15.3 million contract with a $5 million signing bonus, according to a person familiar with the situation.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal hadn’t been announced. ESPN first reported the agreement.
McManus, 33, could have become an unrestricted free agent next week if he hadn’t agreed to terms. McManus stabilized the Packers’ kicking situation when he signed in October and took over for struggling rookie Brayden Narveson.
He went 20 of 21 on field goals and made all 30 of his extra-point attempts in 11 games.
McManus also became the first kicker to make two field goals at Lambeau Field from at least 55 yards in the same season.
He missed a 38-yard field goal while also making a 26-yarder in the Packers’ 22-10 wild-card playoff loss at Philadelphia.

Bruins trade Frederic in a 3-team deal
The defending Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers made their first big move ahead of the NHL trade deadline, acquiring hard-nosed forward Trent Frederic from the Boston Bruins.
Edmonton sent a 2025 second- and a 2026 fourth-round pick and prospect Max Wanner to Boston for the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder, with the Bruins retaining half of Frederic’s $2.3 million salary. The New Jersey Devils retained another quarter and received the rights to unsigned draft pick Shane Lachance from the Oilers and Petr Hauser from the Bruins in return.
In addition to adding Frederic at a bargain cap hit of $575,000 — under the league minimum — the Oilers also got depth forward Max Jones in this deal. Jones is a veteran of 265 NHL games, mostly with Anaheim, and got into seven this year with Boston while spending most of his time in the minors with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Rangers All-Star Garcia out with pain
Rangers outfielder Adolis García was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s spring training game against the Athletics and will undergo an MRI on his left oblique, the same one that he injured during their World Series run two years ago.
A two-time All-Star, García is trying to bounce back from a disappointing season in which he hit .224 with 24 homers and 85 RBIs in 154 games. He had six hits and two walks in 21 plate appearances so far this spring training.
The injury throws into question whether García will be available by opening day on March 27 against the Boston Red Sox.
“He’s going to miss a little bit of time. We’re hoping not much,” Texas manager Bruce Bochy told reporters.
Boston’s Devers says he’s not ready
Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers, who was expected to make his spring training debut Tuesday against the Pirates, has pushed it back after telling Boston manager Alex Cora that he did not feel ready while taking live batting practice.
Cora did not say when the three-time All-Star will play but suggested it might not be until this weekend.
Devers hit .272 with 28 homers and 83 RBIs last season, despite complaining of soreness in both of his shoulders. He had spent the first couple of weeks of spring training trying to strengthen them for the rigors of a 162-game regular season.
