Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Yolo, will be hosting a free community film screening featuring “Gabby Gifford Won’t Back Down” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Varsity Theatre located at 616 Second St. in Davis.

The screening will be in recognition of National Gun Violence Prevention Month.

In a press release, Aguiar-Curry invited all of her constituents from California’s Fourth Assembly District but noted reservations are required due to space limitations.

“The documentary tells the story of former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her relentless fight to recover following an assassination attempt in 2011, and her new life as one of the most effective activists in the battle against gun violence,” Aguiar-Curry emphasized in the event’s website emphasized. “Join me by wearing orange on screening day.”

A panel with special speakers — Assemblymember Buffy Wicks and Peter Ambler, executive director of Giffords: Courage to Fight Gun Violence, an organization dedicated to saving lives from gun violence — discussing gun violence prevention will be held immediately following the film.

If interested in attending, reservations can be made by visiting asmdc.org/screening.
