Art & Wine Festival this weekend

The Capitola Art & Wine Festival is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Capitola Village. Attendees can enjoy wine from 22 Santa Cruz Mountains wineries and browse art from 100 participating vendors. In the Local Artisans marketplace, vendors include Ashby Confections, Dani O Bakeshop, Santa Cruz Balsamics and Santa Cruz Fungi. Food trucks My Mom’s Mole, Pana Venezuelan, and Saucey’z will be in the food court. Live entertainment includes James Durbin and The Lost Boys and Extra Large. Festival admission is free but wine tasting requires buying a festival glass ($15) and tasting tokens. Visit capitolaartandwine.com for details.

Zen Musubi now open

Zen Musubi (zenmusubi.com) is serving customers at a new location: 256 Potrero St. It is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. People can enjoy onigiri (Japanese rice balls encased in seaweed, made with heirloom rice, sea salt, and sesame seeds) with topping choices like salmon, miso chicken, tofu, and Spam; plus dishes including miso curry and tofu bento.

In addition, Staff of Life in Santa Cruz (1266 Soquel Ave.) started carrying Zen Musubi products in August. Owner Lisa Koda formerly offered selections at a kiosk at 1130-K1 Pacific Ave., which closed in late July. Zen Musubi also sells onigiri at the Aptos farmers market every Saturday (8 a.m. to noon, Cabrillo College).

Adorable French Bakery has soft opening

Popular bakery popup Adorable French Bakery (adorablefrenchbakery.com) has its first brick-and-mortar location, Adorable French Bakery Bistro, at 4402 Scotts Valley Drive (the old site of Malone’s). It’s in a soft opening stage, so hours are fluctuating. Currently, customers will find lots of bakery products like baguettes, eclairs, and savory and sweet pastries including the top-selling almond twist. Staff members shared that future menu plans include bistro-style entrees, a cocktail bar during evenings and weekends, and “probably soups.” The bakery currently appears at 22 farmers markets across the Bay Area.

Rustico shutters its doors

Rustico (1003 Cedar St.) has permanently closed. The eatery had only been open since the spring, and specialized in Roman-style thin, rectangular pizza slices on homemade dough.

I Love Sushi closes up shop

I Love Sushi (516 Front St.) is no longer in business. The restaurant had been open since 2007.

New happy hour, new chef at Solaire

A new Monday happy hour kicked off last week Solaire Restaurant + Bar at Hotel Paradox (611 Ocean St., 831-425-7100, hotelparadox.com/solaire-restaurant/). It starts at noon and lasts all evening, featuring bottles of wine at half-off and a variety of happy hour food specials. Plus, the first Monday of every month there is trivia with local trivia jockey Shiri Gradek.

HOME Restaurant changes hours

HOME Restaurant (3101 N. Main St., 831-431-6131, homesoquel.com) has shortened its hours. The restaurant was formerly serving dinner Thursday-Monday; now it is open for dinner Friday through Monday from 5-9 p.m.

Homesteaders Market season continues Saturday

The Soquel Homesteaders Market has its next installment from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 2505 S. Main St., in the Soquel Creek Animal Hospital parking lot. Food-related vendors include J and M Sourdough Bagels and Solstice Foods. The Real Taco will be selling ready-to-eat food. Other vendors will have items including produce, flowers, plants, candles and art. The market is on the second and fourth Saturdays each month through October. PAJARO DUNES

Tickets available for hunger-fighting event

Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes is holding its annual Empty Bowls fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Pajaro Dunes Shorebirds Lagoon House. Tickets are $100, which includes hosted wine and beer, appetizers and desserts. There will be live music, auctions and a raffle. Each attendee selects a handcrafted ceramic bowl to take home. The empty bowl is a reminder of hunger in our community. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit’s programs, which provide free supplemental groceries and a daily sit-down lunch to farmworkers, working families, and elderly, disabled and unsheltered individuals. Emozioni Pasticceria expands hours

Emozioni Pasticceria (2841 Porter St. Suite B, Instagram @emozionipasticceria) has expanded its hours. It’s now open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday (it was previously only open until 3 p.m.). The menu includes handmade specialty pastries, cakes, and tarts, and gelato. Lunch items include pizza created with the bakery’s focaccia.

Tickets on sale for hospice fundraiser

Friends of Hospice is hosting An Evening with Friends from 3-7 p.m. Sept. 22. The event, at Lester Estate Wines Deer Park Ranch (2000 Pleasant Valley Road), costs $175 per person. The benefit begins with a wine reception on the lawn and includes a family-style outdoor dinner from Brad Briske (HOME Restaurant) with Lester wine pairings, and an auction. Glass pumpkin patch with refreshments on deck

The inaugural Glass Harvest Patch with hand blown glass pumpkins, acorns and ornaments will be at Magnolia Fine Gifts & Gallery (8050 Soquel Drive) this weekend. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be complimentary homemade pumpkin pie plus sparkling wine and lemonade.

Cactus Fiesta at Tortilla Flats

Tortilla Flats (4616 Soquel Drive, 831-476-1754, tortillaflatsdining.biz) is offering special dishes through Sunday for its Wild Mushroom Fungi Festival. Selections include handmade Truffle Crepes with Portobello, oyster and shiitakes topped with amarillo sauce, Portobello quesadillas, and Huitlacoche mushroom tamales with poblano sauce. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday, and 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday (closed Monday).

Popup at wineries on tap

Yakitori Charcoal BBQ will pop up from 3-6 p.m. Saturday in front of Inversion Wines and Kissed by an Angel (75 Mount Hermon Road). Anzani Cider will be present, pouring its ciders. There will also be live music from The Dos Bros. For details, visit inversionwines.com.
