


The San Marin High girls basketball team took its defense with it as it hit the road for a game against Dixon on Saturday.
Although the Mustangs struggled to score, they came up big defensively for a 45-29 victory. Quincy Dean led the way with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs (17-5). Delaney Butler had 10 points and four steals and Abby Bartholo had eight points and five steals.
San Marin is set to host MCAL leaders Redwood in pivotal league game on Tuesday night.
• Claire Hannan pumped in a team-high 15 points as Novato beat Las Lomas, 51-47, in Saturday’s non-league action. Hannan also had eight rebounds and four steals. Ximena Flores tallied 10 points for the Hornets (12-8), who also got eight points and four steals from Seanna Madsen. Savannah Sparks had seven points, including a clutch free throw late to ice the game.
Prep wrestling
Sofi De Jesus continued her stellar season for Archie Williams by securing five consecutive pinfall victories to win the third annual Corning Girls Tournament on Saturday. De Jesus is 19-3 on the season at 112 pounds with 17 pins and two technical falls.
• Redwood High sophomore Dylan Morton (26-11) pinned Monte Vista junior Blake Lewis in 54 seconds to clinch fifth place in the 128-pound class at the Puma Classic in Santa Rosa on Saturday.
Boys soccer
Mateo Hale assisted one goal and scored another to help lead Tam to a 3-1 win against Sonoma Valley on Saturday. Hale set up the first goal for Oscar Freau then scored the second on an assist by Noah Pederson. Marco Caruso capped the scoring for Tam (5-4-4) off an assist by Buba Mane.
• Marin Academy (4-7-3) dropped a 4-0 game to De La Salle on Saturday.
Boys basketball
Terra Linda earned a 68-54 victory in Wine Country against host Sonoma Valley on Saturday. The Trojans (15-7, 3-2) led by just one point after three quarters, but got a couple of key stops to help secure the win. Shauwn Sharp had a career day with eight 3-pointers en route to 26 points. Evan Brewster added 23 points.
• Piedmont got rolling early during Saturday’s 66-35 non-league win over host Novato (6-14, 0-4).
Track
Kennedy Foster set three personal bests for the Marin Waves Track Club at the Las Gatos Winter Champs Qualifier on Saturday. Foster (Open, eight grade) was sixth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 10.60 seconds. Foster was third in the 600 (1:51.02) and 11th in the 300 (47.33).
Sydney Smith (open, eight grade) also set a personal record with a time of 5:13.66 to take seventh in the 1,500.
