Resident of Danville

Gladyce Stamates, 100, passed away after a battle with heart disease. Gladyce was born in Berkeley, CA to Katon and Evelyn Silva. She had two older brothers, Katon and William, two younger sisters, Mary and Gloria. She graduated from Berkeley High School. After the first year at UC Berkeley she left to help support the family. She then married the love of her life Joseph Stamates.

After the War, Joseph and Gladyce returned from Little Rock, Arkansas to start a new life. Gladyce was a supervisor for F&M Meat Packing, and became a saleswoman for Goehring Meat Company before buying her own business, the Joe Larwell Company. She was a member of the Butcher’s Union, and the first woman elected to the Union Board. Gladyce loved to travel, read and attend movies. She loved to stay at her homes at Lake Tahoe, and Discovery Bay. The ranch in Capay Valley was her favorite. It was a sad day when she sold her land to the Indian Reservation, now known as Cache Creek Casino, and Yocha Dehe Golf Course. Her final home of enjoyment was in Puerto Vallarta, MX. Gladyce is missed by her son, Steve, wife Sandi, Grandchildren Valerie Sartini, Joe Stamates and wife Lynn, Great-grandchildren Hunter, Savannah and Sidney Sartini, Stephanie Stamates and Summer Stamates. She has many nieces and nephews.

Gladyce was predeceased by husband Joseph, parents, brothers, sisters and brothers-in-law, Conrad and Louis Gubanski. The memory of those we love is forever in our hearts. Gladyce left everyone she met with fond memories, and appreciation of her kindness.
