The case of a man who stole tens of thousands of dollars in frozen fish from his Warren employer was finally resolved last week when he was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay restitution.

Erwin Wilson, 31, received the sentence last Thursday from Macomb County Circuit Judge Matthew Sabaugh after pleading no contest to embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000 under an agreement with prosecutors to dismiss a habitual-offender status and a sentencing agreement with the judge for three years.

Wilson previously pleaded to a charge under a deal to dismiss the habitual status but gained approval last August to withdraw his plea. He gained assurance of the prison term under the new deal. The maximum term is 15 years.

He also was ordered to repay $67,500 in restitution.

The incident occurred in May 2023 when he loaded hundreds of frozen fish from a Lipari Foods warehouse into a Cadillac Escalade that his former co-defendant was caught driving by police. Charges against that individual were later dismissed.

He is also serving a term of five years, 10 months up to a maximum of 20 years for a first-degree home invasion conviction for a 2016 incident in Chesterfield Township. He had been released on parole but was re-jailed after his arrest for the stolen fish accusations.
