Jake Escalante had two hits, including a double, two RBI, and scored a run, and Soquel High’s baseball team edged visiting Aptos 6-5 in the teams’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League game Friday.

Aptos scored four runs in the second to take a 4-1 lead, but the Knights responded with five runs in the fourth. The Mariners rallied for a run in the seventh but came up short.

Sam Whelan had two hits, including a double, and one RBI for Soquel (11-1, 2-1). Enzo Goff had a hit and two RBI.

Isaiah Work had three hits and scored a run for the Mariners. Jason Yager had a hit and two RBI.

Escalante pitched five innings and earned the win. Jason Yager pitched five innings and took the loss.

Aptos (2-6, 1-2) hosts Santa Clara (9-2) in nonleague action on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Soquel (11-1, 2-1) plays Scotts Valley (5-6, 1-2) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

At St. Francis 7, Hollister 4 >> Nash Horton had three hits, including a double and home run, two RBI, and scored twice in the Sharks’ Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division win Friday.

Noah Magana had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run for the Sharks (7-3, 4-2). Nicholas Fantl had two hits and one RBI, and Mason Borrego scored twice. Maximus Madrigal had three hits.

Gavin Rodriguez had three hits and scored twice for the Haybalers (7-4, 4-2).

Horton gave up an unearned run over five innings and earned the win.

St. Francis hosts Salinas (4-7, 1-5) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Santa Cruz 9, at Scotts Valley 2 >> The Cardinals produced six runs in the fifth inning to cap scoring in their SCCAL win Friday.

Monte Jordan had a double and one RBI for the Falcons (5-6, 1-2). Lukas Bloom had a hit and scored a run.

Scotts Valley hosts Palma (7-2) on Saturday at noon.

Santa Cruz (4-2, 3-0) hosts San Lorenzo Valley (1-8, 0-3) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

At Harbor 8, SLV 0 >> Logan Felich struck out six batters over 3 1/3 innings, and the Pirates won their SCCAL game Friday.

Joey Raffo had three hits, including a double, and scored a run for the Pirates, who produced four-run innings in the second and fifth innings.

Brody Egnar had two of the Cougars’ five hits, including a double. Jaden Shabry tripled.

At Aptos 13, North Monterey County 3; 5 inn. >> Lilly Mcgee had two hits, including a home run, two RBI, and scored twice in the Mariners’ nonleague win Friday.

Gwen Vaca had three of the Mariners’ 16 hits, one RBI, and scored twice. Emma Burgueno had two hits, including a double, one walk, three RBI, and scored a run. Kailani Aguayo had two hits, including a double, one RBI, and scored twice.

Mya Najera-White pitched a complete game, didn’t allow an earned run, and struck out four batters.

Men’s volleyball

UC Santa Cruz 3, Benedictine 1 >> Dylan Foreman had 20 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks in the Banana Slugs’ 15-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 win in Lisle, Illinois, on Friday.

Riley Norman had 11 kills and two assists for UCSC (18-6). Kyle Ownbey had eight kills and two blocks, and Andrew Pak made 40 assists.

Cooper Armstrong and Chris Radomski each had 16 kills for the Eagles (13-9).

UCSC plays Wisconsin Lutheran (8-13) at Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois, on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Girls swimming

Harbor 91, at Santa Cruz 77 >> Zia Jaggar took first in the 100 back (1:09.75) and 500 free (6:05.77) for the Pirates in their SCCAL meet win Friday.

The Pirates’ Serena Manildi took first in the 100 fly (1:12.82).

Harbor also took first in the 200 medley relay (2:06.79) and 400 free relay (4:32.94). Jaggar was on both relay teams.

The Cardinals’ Tessa Jeffries took first in the 100 breast (1:19.67) and 200 free (1:12.30).

Annika Seasholes (50 free, 26.90), Sage Steller-Croll (100 free, 1:01.60), and Guilia D’Souza (200 IM, 2:33.63) also earned wins for the Cardinals, who also took first in the 200 free relay (1:53.56).

At Aptos 89, Soquel 67 >> Rose Lockwood and Adelaide Friedley each won two individual events in the Mariners’ SCCAL win Friday.

Lockwood took first in the 100 free (58.78) and 200 free (2:08.91), and Friedley took first in the 100 back (1:02.05) and 200 individual medley (2:18.58).

Boys swimming

At Santa Cruz 108, Harbor 57 >> Martin Cruz took first in the 100 fly (1:00.94) and 200 free (1:57.25) for the Cardinals in their SCCAL meet win Friday.

Santa Cruz also won the 200 free relay (1:35.87), 200 medley relay (1:49.81), and 400 free relay (3:33.49), and received individual wins from Matthias Cruz (100 free, 54.81), Jack Yoshimura (100 breast, 1:10.69), Nico van der Meer (200 IM, 2:14.63), and Grant Atkinson (500 free, 5:43.84).

Harbor’s Elias Keen-Server took first in the 50 free (22.70) and 100 back (1:00.81).

Santa Cruz competes at SLV on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., and Harbor swims at Soquel on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Soquel 92, at Aptos 76 >> Oliver Santana took first in the 100 fly (51.69) and 100 breast (1:00.84) in the Knights’ SCCAL win Friday.

The Knights’ 400 free relay team (Santana, Gabe Suarez-Abraham, Cassius Wolf, and Stryder Stelk) took first in a Central Coast Section qualifying time of 3.27.27.

Boys tennis

At Santa Cruz 7, SLV 0 >> Jeremy Arulanantham, Che Castro, and Otis Delaselva didn’t drop a game in their singles wins in the Cardinals’ SCCAL sweep.

Max Schumaker and Oscar Sapunor, Owen Heinze and Cal Pena, and Ian Burchell and Ethan Romanowsky earned doubles wins.

Boys volleyball

Mount Madonna 3, Scotts Valley 0 >> The Hawks earned a 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 sweep in their SCCAL match Friday.

Senior middle Otto Palma had nine passes, six digs, six kills, and eight blocks for the Falcons. Sophomore outside hitter Jake Locatelli had three passes, three digs, and two kills, and senior middle Flavio Aiudicii made three blocks.
