The warmer weather on the Monterey Peninsula is expected to be brief this week, as the community prepares for another busy tourist weekend.

A heat advisory was in effect for areas near the Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley, Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills and East Bay Valleys on Monday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., and extended through Tuesday for the East Bay region. Temperatures are expected to be around 95 to 100 degrees.

On the Peninsula, the area has escaped the heat and will remain cooler compared to neighboring cities.

Though the week is starting with cloudy, often foggy, weather in the morning then heating up to some of the warmest weather the county has seen all year, it’s expected to cool down back into the mid-60s as the week continues.

“This is going to be a quick warm-up, just [a couple of days],” said Nicole Sarment, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Bay Area.

Tentatively for the Peninsula, Tuesday night is forecast to be cloudy with a low around 56. Then partly sunny Wednesday morning with a high near 68 and a calm wind, with the trend continuing into Thursday.

Getting into the weekend, Saturday and Sunday are currently forecast to be mostly sunny with highs in the high-60s and lows in the high-50s. Thousands of visitors are expected in the area as the Monterey Jazz Festival and the California International Airshow in Salinas are both taking place.

“We’re going to be closer to normal after Tuesday, but toward the end of the week things start to get a little divergent with the forecast, so we don’t have the highest confidence in what’s going to happen next weekend, but it does still look like it’ll warm up a little bit into next week,” Sarment said.
