The opening of Fritzler Farm this weekend means one thing: Spooky season is here.
The farm’s 26th year kicks off from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the farm, 20861 County Road 33, LaSalle.
This season is full of screams, pumpkins and fall activities for the whole family. The famed Scream Acres has been revamped this year to provide more blood-curdling screams under the pale moonlight. This year’s theme for the terrifying corn maze is “The Curse of the Blood Moon.”
Annie Legner, executive assistant at Fritzler Farm, said the Scream Acres’ theme and scares come from the creativity of Christian Victor, an employee. She said Victor overhauled the entire maze this year to give it a redesign. Victor is also one of the actors who roam in the field scaring those who enter.
“We’re so excited,” said Legner about Sunday’s opening. “It has all come together seemingly overnight, even though it’s something we’ve been working on now for months and months.”
Nighttime Entertainment provides after-dark fun with live music, costume contests, fire performers and interactive entertainment in the Scream Acres line.
When it’s time to relax from all the screams and costumes, wood-burning fire pits are available to rent for two hours for $75. The fires won’t just be in the ground as two fireworks shows are scheduled at dusk on Saturday, Sept. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 4. Saturday, Sept. 27, is also Oktoberfest at the farm. The new event features a morning kids’ costume contest, a family costume contest and an evening scary costume contest. A cornhole and stein-hoisting competition are planned, as well as a whiskey tasting for the first 300 adults 21 and older. All Oktoberfest events are included with that day’s ticket.
Another addition this year is Friday Night Features. Legner said students in local school districts are selling discounted tickets on those nights. Friday, Oct. 17, Greeley-Evans School District 6 students will sell tickets. Frontier Academy students sell tickets Friday, Sept. 26. She said a portion of the proceeds go back to each school. Legner said they’ve also added more seating, tents and shaded areas around the farm. She said keeping traditional attractions like Scream Acres and the pumpkin patch, but also bringing in fresh ideas like Oktoberfest, has been one of their keys to success for 26 years.
Moreover, the treatment of everyone who comes to the farm is the top priority for everything they do, Legner said.
“If you’re a place that people want to return to, that’s paramount,” she said. “(We) treat our people well.”
Fritzler Farm is open from 5-10 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays in September and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays in October. To see a full list of events, purchase tickets and for the latest updates, go to fritzlerfarmpark.com.
