San Pedro, CA

After two years past his death, we want to share memories of John Andrew Mosich, on his birthday. John was born and raised in San Pedro and passed away at his home in Incline Village, Nevada, on April 26, 2023. John was born July 8, 1941, to Dinka (Dorothy) and John Z(Zane) Mosich, both originally from Brac, Croatia. He attended Leland Street grammar school, Dana Junior High School, and San Pedro High School, graduating in 1959, and Harbor College and Trade Tech.

John spent most of his working years in commercial fishing, as Chief Engineer on large purse seiners, mostly the Western and Eastern Pacific. Despite lengthy fishing trips and living at Lake Tahoe, John kept his strong ties to family and friends in San Diego, San Pedro and San Francisco Bay Area. Time away from fishing trips included lots of driving to SoCal for family and social events. John was a sports fan, and followed the San Francisco Giants and 49ers through the ups and downs, that he discussed endlessly with his cousin and closer than a brother, George Mosich.

John is survived by his sister, Diane Guarrasi; nieces, Victoria Guarrasi and Christine King; and nephew, Peter Guarrasi and many cousins and friends, who miss him a lot.
