WANDA A. DOUMA, age 97, of Rochester Hills, matriarch of the Douma family, went home to be with the Lord on August 19, 2024. Born on May 9, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Wanda was the middle daughter of the late William and Anna (VanDyk) Lyon. For 72 years, she was the dear wife of the late Jerald E.Douma until his passing in 2020. Wanda was also preceded in death by her daughter Janet in 1956, and both sisters, Bonny (Oscar) Dato and Doris (Ernest) Miller.
Wanda is survived by her children Jim (Megan) Douma, Jerri (Randy) Gilbert, Jeff (Terri Spear) Douma, and John (Sandy) Douma; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. A 1945 graduate of South High School in Grand Rapids, Wanda married Jerald on June 12, 1948. For 30 years, she worked as the Office Manager for Douma & Associates, retiring in 1995. Wanda enjoyed swimming, camping, hiking, and traveling with her husband. Wanda loved the outdoors and spending time in nature. She also loved reading as well as singing, especially with her musical family. A woman of deep Christian faith who followed Christ and encouraged her family on their own faith journey, she had been a part of the Christian Reformed Church and most recently attended Meadowbrook Christian Church. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Her loving, kind, and compassionate spirit held the family together through the roughest storms of life. A true matriarch, she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, 11:30 a.m. at Meadowbrook Christian Church, 2741 Walton Blvd., Rochester Hills. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Inurnment will follow on October 18 at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
