LOS ANGELES >> For Walker Buehler, six weeks is the horsehide anniversary.
Monday will be six weeks since the Dodgers right-hander had surgery to remove a bone spur from his pitching elbow. The procedure was performed with Buehler already on the injured list with a strained flexor tendon in his elbow.
Buehler has done no throwing, only range-of-motion exercises with his arm since the surgery. But on Monday, he will begin a throwing program with the hope that he will be able to rejoin the Dodgers at some point in September.
Buehler chuckled at the significance of “about as light a catch as you can have” when he starts throwing.
“I remember doing it with the Tommy John (surgery) and kind of that first day, it’s so overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time,” he said. “But this one was six weeks, not six months. So hopefully it’s a little more normal, just kind of progressing and see where we can get to.
“The more you get excited about it, the more underwhelming the 20 throws at 60 feet or whatever is. Part of me felt like six weeks have gone by really quick. Part of me feels like it’s taking forever.”
