High temps near 50 have a heart, then depart
Valentine’s Day in Chicago saw temperatures surge ahead of an approaching cold front with highs areawide well into the 40s — Chicago’s official observing site touched on 50 degrees.
Dating to 1871, there have been only 10 other Valentine’s Days with higher temperatures. This gave Chicagoans a brief glimpse of what normal temperatures are heading into the last week of March.
It’s looking like cold conditions will be in place for at least the next week.
Friday’s highs will struggle to reach very far into the 20s, and after that high temperatures will consistently run in the lower 30s.
Low pressure pounding the West Coast will move east in the next couple of days, probably bringing accumulating snow here later Saturday night into Sunday.
