Mid County Senior Center benefit dance

Join the Mid County Senior Center, 829 Bay Ave., on Friday for a Halloween Costume Dance, with prizes for best costumes, from 7-9 p.m.

Enjoy soulful and energetic live music from the local Ten O’Clock Lunch Band. Admission is $10. Mid County Senior Center provides a variety of programs and activities for the local community. Ages 18 and over are welcome to participate in the dances.

SOQUEL

Senior Outreach offers peer counseling training

Senior Outreach, a program of the Family Service Agency of the Central Coast, is seeking volunteers for a 30-hour peer counseling training for individuals aged 55 and older, beginning Nov. 5 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 2402 Cabrillo College Drive, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with scheduled breaks during the day.

The training will consist of six sessions on Nov. 5, 7, 8, 12, 14 and 15. After completing the training, participants will visit a homebound client once a week to provide peer counseling. Peer counselors assist seniors in maintaining their independence by supporting them through aging challenges and life transitions. Participants learn valuable active listening skills and senior resources available in the community. Services are provided in both English and Spanish. Ribbon-cutting ceremony and street party

Local nonprofit Watsonville Brillante invites you to a ribbon cutting and street party at the Downtown Civic Plaza Parking Garage on Rodriguez Street, between 1st and 2nd Streets, this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event celebrates the completion of the five-year project “Watsonville Brillante,” featuring 12,500 square feet of mosaics covering the downtown parking garage.

Labyrinth community build at Calvary Episcopal

Connect with the community at the Labyrinth Build Day hosted by Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 532 Center St., this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the construction of a labyrinth garden.

Calvary is developing a permanent labyrinth on the church property to enhance the enjoyment and spiritual well-being of the parish and the broader community. Everyone in Santa Cruz is invited to join. So bring your hat, gloves, sunscreen, friends and family members. Beneath the bricks, notes will be placed expressing your prayers, hopes, dreams and thanksgivings. Attendees can even use a marker to write directly on the underside of the bricks. Activities for children will also be featured.

SANTA CRUZ

Vets 4 Vets hosts annual nature walk

Join the Volksmarch (people’s march) hosted by Vets 4 Vets on Oct. 26 for a three or six mile distance walk in nature filled with fun, friendship and fitness at Arana Gulch Park, 101 Mentel Ave. The six mile walk begins at 10 a.m. and the three mile walk at 11 a.m. The non-competitive walk group will meet at the corner of Mentel Avenue and Agnes Street.

An Oktoberfest after party will be held at noon at VFW Post 7263, located at 2259 7th Ave. Tickets are $25, which includes the walk, a beer stein with beer and a bratwurst or a T-shirt with a Bratwurst. Kids can enjoy pretzels and root beer. Children under 10 are free, while those aged 11 to 17 are $10. Everybody is welcome. Spooky community social at Soquel Cemetery

Attend the historic Soquel Cemetery at 550 Soquel San Jose Road for the Spooky Community Social, Sunday, 2-4 p.m. There’s fun for everyone, kids are encouraged to attend. Costumes are welcome. Enjoy prizes for all children in costume, along with hot apple cider, cookies, historic displays, a scavenger hunt and a tour of historic graves at 2:30 p.m.

Pasatiempo Art and Wine Fair

Mark your calendars for the return of the Pasatiempo Art and Wine Fair, benefiting the local Youth on Course, happening at the Hollins House, 20 Club House Road, on Nov. 3 from 12-4 p.m.

It will feature a diverse group of mediums from talented local artists and artfully crafted wines from Rombauer, Caymus and other fine wineries. There is no entry fee. The wine tasting flight can be purchased for $25 and raffle tickets are available for $10 each, or three for $20. Pizza and other beverages will also be available for sale.
