Cases have advanced against a Madison Heights couple each facing a criminal charge after the woman’s 9-year-old son accidentally shot himself.
Jacob Gean, 27, and Jessie Gean, 25, are accused of violating Michigan’s safe storage law, which resulted in the felony charge because it involved a minor and resulted in injury. They face prison time and hefty fines if convicted.
The boy shot himself in the hand in August while at home on Palmer Street in Madison Heights, police said.
The Geans recently waived their rights to a preliminary exam in 43rd District Court, and the cases were bound over to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial. The couple is out of custody on $50,000 personal bonds — which require no cash or surety to be posted.
The Geans were arraigned in Oakland County Circuit Court on Oct. 28 before Judge David Cohen. Records show Jessie Gean’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 18 for a pretrial hearing, and Jacob Gean’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 25, also for a pretrial hearing.
