Left Hand Grange No. 9 building to become Niwot Hall
Niwot’s oldest commercial building is getting a new name. The 117-year-old Left Hand Grange No. 9 building is becoming Niwot Hall.
In 1945, the building was bought by the Left Hand Grange No. 9, a fraternal organization. It held many events that provided social interaction, education, and opportunities for political advocacy from farmers and ranchers, according to a release.
Over the years the building started being used less for Grange events and more for the community. Now it hosts an array of meetings, celebrations and cultural events.
In 2023, faced with ongoing maintenance and needed upgrades, the Left Hand Grange Inc. transferred the property to Niwot Hall, a newly formed nonprofit. Part of the reason for the space’s name change is to promote the building as a wedding venue. Leaders felt like younger generations did not relate to the Grange branding.
Over the past year, with the assistance of funds from the Niwot Local Improvement District and Niwot community organizations, the main hall of the building has added a much-requested audio-visual system, installed new lighting, flooring and a new ceiling, all in keeping with a style that honors the history of the building.
Going forward Niwot Hall hopes to raise funds for an outdoor space behind the building, updated windows and ADA improvements, like an elevator.
