The popular Netflix series “Quarterback” is returning after taking a season off from highlighting the position, and Detroit Lions star Jared Goff is set to be one of three players featured.

Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals) and Kirk Cousins (Atlanta Falcons) — a former Michigan State standout and Holland, Mich. native — are the other two, Netflix revealed in a video posted to social media Wednesday. Netflix said the new season will drop in July.

Goff’s upcoming appearance comes one season after the series was forced to move positions and focus on pass-catchers, including Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown. Goff, along with other quarterbacks in the league, were approached before the position change, but they, at the time, turned down participating.

“A multitude of reasons,” Goff said in an interview with 97.1-FM last year, when asked why he didn’t want to be part of the show. “I really don’t know if it’s as distracting as people may think, the way that they do it, but just wasn’t the right fit for me this year. Maybe one day.”

One day has arrived.

The first season of the series, which aims to tell the stories of players on and off the field, followed quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Marcus Mariota and Cousins. In addition to St. Brown, the second iteration — appropriately named, “Receiver” — highlighted Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.

Both versions of the series were eight installments, with each episode coming in at about an hour in length.

Goff is coming off a season in which he finished fifth in MVP voting, behind Buffalo’s Josh Allen, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson, Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley and Burrow. He completed 72.4% of his passes for 4,629 yards and 37 touchdowns with 12 interceptions to help the Lions win a franchise-record 15 games in 2024 before they were upset by the Washington Commanders in the divisional round.

His passing success rate (54.7%) was a career-best figure, as was his mark for yards per attempt (8.6), passer rating (111.8) and ESPN quarterback rating (68.4).

The 30-year-old Goff, who just finished his ninth season in the league, was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons with the team before he was traded to Detroit as part of the deal that sent Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles. Goff, after leading the Lions to a postseason win over the Rams in 2023 — the franchise’s first playoff victory in more than three decades — earned himself a four-year contract extension worth up to $212 million.
