Oakland County Parks is partnering with the city of Farmington to fund new fitness courts at two parks.
Shiawassee Park, at Power and Shiawassee roads, and Flanders Park, in the area of Eight Mile and Farmington roads, will receive new fitness courts that will provide workout opportunities for adults.
Oakland County Parks said in a release that it is contributing $200,000 to the project and the city is providing $272,500, which includes $100,000 from the National Fitness Campaign, in partnership with Priority Health.
Construction will begin this summer and the courts should be ready this fall, said Chris Ward, county parks director.
This partnership with the city of Farmington is part of the county’s ongoing effort to collaborate with municipalities to provide improved parks and recreation experiences and services.
“Providing opportunities for outdoor fitness complements the recreation and play assets we have in our parks and gives families even more reason to visit and enjoy our outdoor spaces,” said Farmington Mayor Joe LaRussa.
“Spending time enjoying outdoor recreational activities and connecting with nature can have an incredibly positive impact on our physical and mental health,” Ward said.
