Man gets three years for stealing corpse

A 47-year-old man was sentenced to three years in prison for breaking into a mausoleum at Crown Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County and stealing a corpse, according to court records.

Belknap pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse, a felony, as well as criminal mischief and carrying a concealed weapon, both misdemeanors. He was sentenced to three years in prison with credit for time served on Dec. 10 and must pay $3,005 in restitution.

The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office dismissed a second criminal mischief charge, along with burglary, theft, desecration of a venerated object and a weapons charge, as part of a plea agreement.

The victim’s remains were later returned to the cemetery, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Residents can find out about Broadway transit improvements

Boulder workers invite residents to find out more online about new, short bus lanes proposed for two Broadway intersections.

The Broadway Transit Improvements Project project includes traffic bypass lanes at the Regent Drive and Table Mesa Drive intersections of Broadway. Other proposed safety and accessibility improvements for the two intersections also are discussed online.

Plans are expected to be decided on this spring, and construction may happen after that, depending on funding.

Officials hand out nine mental health awareness grants

The Boulder County Community Services Department gave $500,000 in mental health awareness training grants recently to nine nonprofit agencies through funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.

Agencies that received funds are:

•Mayamotion

•CLINICA Family Health and Wellness

•NAMI

•Natural Highs

•Peak to Peak

•Parent Engagement Network

•PEN and Hope Coalition

The agencies cover a range of residents of Boulder County, including Spanish-speaking (Luna Cultura, Natural HIghs); rural (BOULDERMIND); and minority (Luna Cultura, Mayamotion) communities.
