Resident of Foster City
Grace C. McOmber, 101, of Fremont, California, died Tuesday, March 11, 2025 in an elder care home in San Mateo, California. Born in Rexburg Idaho on Nov 30, 1923 to Wiley Delmoe Cook and Lulu May Munns, she was the third oldest of 11 children. She grew up on a farm in Archer, Idaho and began her higher education at Ricks College in Rexburg. Leaving school to help her mother to give birth and care for the children, she soon found work down in Pocatello, where she met Adrian McOmber.
They were married two years later in 1944 and moved quite often at first, finally ending up in Niles (later, Fremont), California in 1956 with five children.
There they had three more children. Grace grew a garden, taught piano to all her children and some of the neighbors, taught the youth in Sunday School in her local ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, played the organ for church meetings, and sang in women’s church choirs. She often aided the poor she met and sometimes took them in.
She was an avid member missionary and an avid genealogist, researching for and publishing family histories.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 22, 12pm in the LDS Church building at 48950 Green Valley Road in Fremont.
