Lila Ann Bevan passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025 in her home in Arcadia, CA under the care of her family and hospice. She was 96. Born and raised in Pottsville, PA she was the only child of Clarence E. Beyerle and Mae Anna Finley. She attended Rider College and in 1950 married J. Richard (Dick) Bevan. Lila worked as a secretary and administrative assistant and upon retirement pursued her lifelong dream of receiving a degree in anthropology graduating from California State University Fullerton. She was a devoted docent of the Southwest Museum and later The Huntington.
Throughout her life, Lila had a lively and engaged interest in the arts, cultivating this in her children. She and her husband Dick enjoyed traveling, entertaining and playing bridge with various community social groups and grandparenting before Dick’s death in 2016.
Lila will be lovingly remembered by her children Elizabeth Bevan of San Dimas, CA; Judith Wheeler and husband Winslow of Hagerstown, Maryland and their son Matthew of Fairfax, Virginia; and Dennis Patrick Bevan and wife Ranee of Thousand Oaks, CA and their family.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Lila is being planned. She will be interred in St. Patrick’s Calvary Cemetery in Pottsville, PA later this year. Memorial donations can be made to St. Rita Catholic Parish, Sierra Madre, CA or to Chaco Culture National Historical Park, New Mexico.
