A Yolo Juneteenth Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 4 at the UC Davis Conference Center located at 550 Alumni Lane in Davis.

“This family-friendly celebration will include live entertainment, a marketplace of Black-owned businesses, academic discussions, music, local authors, theatric dance performances, raffle and Black-owned food vendors,” the event’s press release stated. “This year, organizers will focus on family and restoration choosing ‘Together we Heal’ as their theme.”

Several performances are planned including the Grant High School Drumline, Kast Academy dancers, local gospel singer Samona Whiteside and local dance educator Tina Rogers, among others.

“A panel of scholars from Aggie Black Excellence will share their latest advances in health and healing,” the release added. “Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk with local authors Nikki Shannon Smith, Anya Jaleane, Latrice Bankhead and Theanne Griffith. Oak Park’s Underground Books will be there to provide book signing and sales.”

• Several Woodland organizations will host an in-person Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at the Woodland Community and Senior Center.

The job fair was created by YoloWorks, Yolo County Health & Human Service Agency, Yolo County Workforce Innovation Board, the city of Woodland, the Woodland Chamber of Commerce and the Yolo County Library, according to a YoloWorks Facebook post.

“The job fair will have up to 60 participating employers and resources,” the post added.

• The Yolo County Fairgrounds will host a Monstruck Truck Madness show Friday and Saturday at 1250 Gum Ave. in Woodland.

“Ground-pounding, earth-shattering excitement as Monster Truck Madness brings action-packed entertainment to the Yolo County Fairgrounds,” the event’s website emphasized. “You don’t want to miss this exciting and action-packed night of family fun.”

Ticket prices are $20 for ages 11 and up, $15 for kids 3 to 10 years old and free for kids 2 and under.

Monster truck rides will be available for $10 during the 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. pit party, the intermission and at the end of the show. The show starts at 7 p.m.

• The Davis Pride Celebrations returns this weekend starting with a 6 p.m. bike with pride event Friday evening.

“Davis Pride, voted ‘Best Pride Celebration in California’ three years in a row, is a free multi-part all-inclusive friendly event during the month of June benefitting the efforts and services of the Davis Phoenix Coalition,” the event’s website highlighted.

The coalition’s website stated that its goal is “to engage and unite the Davis community in eliminating intolerance, preventing hate and promoting a broader civic culture that embraces all aspects of our diverse community.”

The celebration continues Saturday with a 7 p.m. skate with pride and Sunday with an 8 a.m. run/walk for equality, a 10 a.m. community fair and an 11 a.m. music festival.

• A West Sacramento Neighborhood Community Workshop aimed at discussing the future of the California Indian Heritage Center will be held at its future site located at Marina Way.

The 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday event will provide community members with updates and feedback on the center’s design.

“The future California Indian Heritage Center will be located on a 51-acre riverside parcel alongside Marina Way in West Sacramento,” the event’s website explained. “It will serve as a significant statewide hub for celebrating the customs and traditions of California’s Native American tribes and people.”

The website argued that the center is meant to serve as an exciting destination for residents.
