KJLH Women’s Health Expo, one of the largest events of its type in Southern California, will return to Long Beach this weekend.

The annual event, sponsored by the Black Infant Health Program, is celebrating 25 years of women’s wellness. This year’s theme — “The Silver Lining: 25 Years of Building Generational Health” — honors the legacy and impact of the event, as well as the dedication to advancing the health and empowerment of women and families across the region, according to a news release.

The event takes place today at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd, and is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 a.m., with the KJLH (102.3 FM) live broadcast starting at 8 a.m. and an event kickoff at 9.

“For 25 years, KJLH and the city of Long Beach have partnered to advance women’s wellness and empowerment,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a statement. “The Women’s Health Expo reflects our shared commitment to health equity and our work to build a healthier future for every woman and family in our community.”

The expo will feature hundreds of exhibitors showcasing health, wellness, beauty, fitness and lifestyle products and services tailored to women and families. Exhibits will include an exercise zone, healthy dishes stage and wellness center, plus free health screenings, according to a release. There will be activities for all ages, giveaways and opportunities to win prizes.

“It is a privilege to once again welcome the cherished Women’s Health Expo in downtown Long Beach as it celebrates 25 years of building generational health,” 1st District Councilmember Mary Zendejas said in a statement. “Every year, this event shines a light on the importance of advancing women’s health and wellbeing, while also honoring the incredible work of programs like our Black Infant Health Long Beach that uplift and empower our community every day.”

The Black Infant Health Program, under the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, aims to address poor birth outcomes affecting Black women and their infants by encouraging a commitment to self-love and healthy living through group intervention and individual client services. The goal is to increase healthy birth outcomes and ultimately improve survival rates for Black infants and mothers, according to the city’s website.

As the returning presenting sponsor, the program will host the BIH Pavilion, offering interactive games, wellness vendors, hosted panel discussions and breakout sessions focused on stress management and Black birth equity, according to a release.

“This event is a cornerstone in our commitment to preventive care and culturally relevant public health,” Alison King, director of the health department, said in a statement. “This year’s theme honors the multigenerational impact of wellness and how Black Infant Health continues to shape healthier futures for families throughout California.”
