Want to take a truly memorable wine-tasting vacation, but are burned out on the big spots like Sonoma and Italy?
The oenophiles at drinking-culture site VinePair have some suggestions. After scanning interesting and up-and-coming wine regions — as well as time-tested ones doing new things — they’ve come up with a guide to the “World’s Top 10 Wine Destinations for 2025.”
“A wine-focused trip no longer automatically means a day of tasting in Tuscany or Napa; instead, it can lead travelers to the hot springs of Japan’s northern island or even the stunning terrains of Patagonia,” writes VinePair’s Hannah Staab. “That’s not to discount more classic regions. Areas like Champagne and the Willamette Valley continue to evolve, making them worthy candidates for a revisit.”
One place in California makes the cut, and it might not be the one you expected — San Luis Obispo. The writer praises the Central Coast’s balanced wines that benefit from a cool Pacific climate — including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah — as well as a number of exciting tasting rooms downtown and at nearby Grover Beach.
