ALLEN PARK >> The Detroit Lions on Friday ruled out two defensive backs ahead of their Week 3 road contest against the Arizona Cardinals.
Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) and cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (hamstring) will officially be out, according to the week’s final injury report.
Linebacker Alex Anzalone (concussion), cornerback Terrion Arnold (illness), wide receiver Isaiah Williams (abdomen) and offensive lineman Graham Glasgow (knee) are all listed as questionable.
Head coach Dan Campbell on Friday said Glasgow, who missed practice earlier in the week, “should be good” to go this weekend.
“He’s doing well. We took care of him on Wednesday, but he came back yesterday and practiced, no issues,” Campbell said.
The statuses of Arnold and Anzalone are less certain, but Campbell said that Friday “will be a big day” for each player.
Campbell said Arnold is “feeling much better” and “trending the right way,” but there’s no guarantee he’s able to go today.
“Alex is really the same thing,” Campbell said. “He’s been going through the protocol. He’s out there, and he ran around a little bit. We’ll see where he’s at today. There again, it’s hard to say. You just never know with the concussion protocol.”
Despite being ruled out for today’s game, Campbell said Melifonwu, who hasn’t been at practice since a Week 2 preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, is not a candidate to go on injured reserve, barring something unforeseen in his progression.
“He’s progressing. He really is. … I would say no (to the possibility of putting him on injured reserve),” Campbell said. “That could change depending on if something happens here with everything else, (with) the rest of the roster. But right now I don’t feel that way, and he is getting better.”
