Applicants named to advisory boards

The Board of Supervisors has appointed six residents to terms on advisory boards.

David Glenn was reappointed to his seat in Community Service Area 16 in Greenbrae. The term is two years.

Patricia Garbarino was reappointed to the board of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District. The term is two years.

George Acree was appointed to the Personnel Commission, and Patrice Goldman and Carla Halyard were granted new terms on it. The terms are four years.

The supervisors approved the appointments during their meeting on Tuesday.

Crafts chain to shut Corte Madera store

The parent company of Joann Fabric and Crafts plans to close about 500 stores in the United States, including its store in Corte Madera, the chain announced Wednesday.

The company started Chapter 11 proceedings last month. In a statement Wednesday, the company said that “right-sizing our store footprint is a critical part of our efforts to ensure the best path forward.”

The company’s website says it has about 850 stores in 49 states.

The company is the latest retail chain to announce closures that affect Marin County. The locations include Kohl’s in San Rafael, Macy’s in Corte Madera and Party City in San Rafael.

The Joann Fabric and Crafts store is on Tamal Vista Boulevard. The staff could not be reached for the closure date and the number of employees there.

Council appoints residents to panels

The Town Council has selected applicants for seats on two municipal boards.

For the Arts Commission, the council appointed Tanya Henry and reappointed incumbents Marc Cohen and Grace Angel. The terms are three years.

For the Open Space Committee, the council appointed Jamie Mackie and reappointed incumbents Daniel Krebs and Rene Voss. The terms are four years.

The council made the appointments at its meeting on Tuesday.

MILL VALLEY

Renovations approved for 4-home compound

The Planning Commission has approved a series of projects at the four-residence complex known as the Redwood Lodge.

The buildings are at 144, 160 and 178 Corte Madera Ave. and 9 Eldridge Ave. The plans include additions to two of the residences and a basement conversion to living space, according to the city planning office. The creekside structures were built between approximately 1891 and 1910.

The commission held a hearing on the application on Tuesday.
