DJ Davis scored 21 points, Mekhi Mason added 15 as six players scored in double figures and Washington thumped Washington State 89-73 in the 300th meeting between the cross-state rivals on Wednesday night.

It was the first meeting since the Huskies, who lead the series 189-111, joined the Big Ten Conference, leaving the Cougars to play as an affiliate member of the West Coast Conference as the Pac-12 Conference tries to rebuild its membership.

Davis, a senior who prepped at Riverside Poly and Centennial HS, made 3 of 7 from 3-point range and 10 of 12 free-throws for his season-high point total. The guard, who started his collegiate career at UC Irvine and played last season at Butler, also had four assists and two steals in the win over the Cougars. He came in averaging 7.4 points in 10 games (four starts) but played a season-high 35 minutes on Wednesday night.

Tyler Harris added 14 points, and Great Osobor had 13 for Washington (8-3).

Nate Calmese scored 21 to lead the Cougars (10-3), Ethan Price had 16 and LeJuan Watts 15.

NO. 6 ALABAMA 97, NORTH DAKOTA 90: Grant Nelson had 23 points and 10 rebounds in his return to his home state and the visiting Crimson Tide overcame Treysen Eaglestaff’s big night to hold off the Fighting Hawks.

Mark Sears had 23 points for Alabama (9-2).

Alabama coach Nate Oats scheduled the game as a favor to Nelson, who grew up 90 minutes away in Devils Lake and is in his second season with the Crimson Tide after transferring from North Dakota State.

Eaglestaff finished with career highs of 40 points and eight 3-pointers for North Dakota (4-9).

NO. 11 UCONN 94, XAVIER 89 (OT): Karaban had seven of his 20 points in overtime to lead the Huskies at home over the Musketeers in the Big East opener for both.

Solo Ball led UConn (9-3) with 22 points and Tarris Reed Jr. had 20 points and 13 rebounds.

WOMEN

UC RIVERSIDE 74, UTAH STATE 59: Hannah Wickstrom scored 23 points, Makayla Rose had 13 and Zoe Tillery added 10 as the Highlanders won the non-conference game Wednesday night in Logan, Utah.

Wickstrom, a freshman guard from Australia, set career highs for points, as well as rebounds (7) and steals (4) as UCR (6-5) won its fifth straight.

Rose added a season-high five rebounds and Tillery had five assists. UCR forced Utah State (1-11) into 26 turnovers, resulting in 29 Highlanders points.

CBU 72, TEXAS SOUTHERN 58: Grace Scvhmidt had 22 points and 17 rebounds and the Lancers used a dominant fourth quarter to pull away and win the non-conference game Thursday afternoon at the CBU Events Center in Riverside.

Anaiyah Tu’ua, Claudia Fiel, and Nhug Bosch-Duran scored 14 points apiece for California Baptist (3-11), which outscored Texas Southern (1-9) 13-4 in the fourth quarter to break open a close game.
