


Jason Graff threw a complete-game one-hitter, and Santa Cruz High’s baseball team beat Harbor 5-0 in the teams’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League opener Friday.
Graff walked two batters and struck out four.
Santa Cruz’s Damos Deworken and Cameron Fusari each had one hit, one RBI, and a run scored. Deworken drew two walks and Fusari drew one.
Graff and Caleb Cmaylo each had a hit and RBI. Seth Jin and August Swanson each drew a walk and scored a run.
Joey Raffo had the lone hit for the Pirates (8-2, 0-1).
Harbor’s Jaxson Hoye gave up four hits, four walks and four runs over 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. He struck out five batters.
On Tuesday, Santa Cruz (2-2, 1-0) plays at Soquel at 4 p.m., and Harbor hosts Scotts Valley (4-4, 1-0) at 4:30 p.m.
Soquel 9, at San Lorenzo Valley 1 >> Hudson Summerrill had two hits, one RBI, two stolen bases, and scored three runs to help the Knights win their SCCAL opener Friday.
Gabe Virgallito had two hits, four of the Knights’ 11 stolen bases, one RBI, and scored twice. Noah Piona had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run for Soquel (9-0, 1-0). Brady Downs had two hits, including a double, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
Winning pitcher Connor Corlett gave up one hit and one unearned run over five innings. He walked one batter and struck out six.
Kane Humecky and Dane Morrison each pitched a hitless and scoreless inning for the Knights. Morrison struck out the side.
Larrabee Mitchell had a hit and RBI for the Cougars (1-5, 0-1). Jaden Shabry scored his team’s lone run.
On Saturday, SLV plays at Sacred Heart Prep (4-6) in Atherton at 10 a.m., and Soquel plays at Leland (3-4) at noon.
Scotts Valley 9, at Aptos 2 >> Owen Martin had two hits and three RBI in the Falcons’ SCCAL win Friday.
Nick Acton had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run for the Falcons. Monte Jordan had two hits and one RBI. Bryce McDonnell had a hit and scored three runs. Kit Deforest had a hit and scored twice, and Kaleb Wing stole two bases and scored twice.
Alec Mendoza had two of the Mariners’ four hits and scored a run. Isaiah Work also scored.
McDonnell pitched four innings and earned the win. He gave up three hits, one walk, and two runs, zero earned. He struck out five batters.
Losing pitcher Jason Yager gave up three unearned runs over five innings. He gave up two hits and three walks and struck out five batters.
On Saturday, Scotts Valley (4-4, 1-0) plays Monte Vista Christian (7-1) at 11 a.m., and Aptos (1-4, 0-1) plays at Mission College Prep (5-3) in San Luis Obispo at noon.
High school softball
Watsonville 17, at Christopher 13 >> Jillian Lerma had three hits, including two doubles, four RBI, and scored four runs in the Wildcatz’s win Friday.
Mia Espinoza doubled twice, had two RBI, and scored a run for the Wildcatz. Ruiz Bella had two hits and scored four runs. Esperanza Sigala had two hits and three RBI, and Amelia Martinez had two hits and one RBI. Genisis Hernandez scored three runs.
Pitcher Amelia Martinez earned the complete-game win. She gave up 11 hits and 13 runs, three were earned, walked three batters and struck out nine.
Watsonville (8-2) hosts Salinas (4-3) on April 2 at 4 p.m.
Girls swimming
Aptos 100, at Santa Cruz 76 >> Natalie Allen and Rose Lockwood each won two individual events in the Mariners’ SCCAL win Friday.
Allen took first in the 100 fly (1:04.13) and 500 free (5:40.71), and Lockwood took first in the 100 free (59.81) and 200 free (2:09.66). Mary Suarez-Abraham took first in the 100 breast (1:22.59). The Mariners also won the 200 medley relay (2:07.00).
Santa Cruz earned wins from Sage Stellar-Croll (50 free, 28.31), Guilia D’Souza (100 back, 1:09.43), Tessa Jeffries (200 IM, 2:32.22), as well as its 200 free relay team (2:00.10) and 400 free relay (4:08.94).
At Harbor 85, SLV 65 >> The Pirates took first in eight events in their SCCAL meet win Friday.
The Pirates earned wins from Abigail Higgins (100 free, 1:01.69), Zia Jaggar (100 back, 1:09.90), Tala Socco (100 breast, 1:31.34), Serena Manildi (200 free, 2:21.03), Gillian Laub (200 IM, 2:59.35), and Camille Hartmann (500 free, 6:19.50).
Harbor also won the 200 free relay (1:54.93) and 400 free relay (4:32.44).
SLV’s Claire Reedy took first in the 50 free (27.88) and 100 butterfly (1:12.56), She also was part of the Cougars’ victorious 200 medley relay (2:14.40).
Boys swimming
At Santa Cruz 91, Aptos 79 >> Nico van der Meer and Martin Cruz each won two individual events in the Cardinals’ SCCAL win Friday.
Van der Meer took first in the 100 fly (1:01.41) and 500 free (5:22.07), and Cruz took first in the 100 breast (1:04.29) and 200 IM (2:08.65)
The Cardinals also earned wins from Jack Yoshimura (100 back, 1:00.13), as well as their 200 medley relay team (1:45.34) and 200 free relay (1:38.99).
Aptos’ Elijah Souza took first in the 50 free (22:53) and 100 free (50.25) and swam a leg on the Mariners’ victorious 400 free relay team (3:37.23). Thomas Westfall took first in the 200 free (2:02.06).
At Harbor 101, SLV 36 >> Elias Keen-Server and Kasper Berg Mills each won two individual events in the Pirates’ SCCAL meet win Friday.
Keen-Server took first in the 50 free (22.69) and 100 back (58.70), and Berg Mills took first in the 100 fly (1:03.16) and 500 free (5:48.34).
The Pirates also earned wins from Kai Henrikson (100 breast, 1:11.69), Jameson Venus (200 free, 2:09.10), and Logan Manildi (200 IM, 2:23.71), as well as their 200 medley relay team (1:49.00), 200 free relay (1:36.95), and 400 free relay (3:56.90).
SLV’s Amir Vered took first in the 100 free (55.81).
Girls track and field
Dublin Distance Fiesta >> Santa Cruz freshman Isla Roake took 16th out of 228 runners in the girls’ 3,200 race at the Dublin Distance Fiesta at Dublin High on Friday. She finished in 11:43.60.
Boys track and field
Dublin Distance Fiesta >> Pajaro Valley freshman William Santos-Cruz took 133rd out of 349 runners in the 1,600 race at the Dublin Distance Fiesta At Dublin High on Friday. He finished in 5:34.86.
Men’s track and field
Hornet Invitational >> Chico State junior Ronin Tidd, an Aptos alum, took sixth out of 31 athletes in the javelin throw at Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State University on Friday. Tidd finished with a throw of 165 feet, 10 inches.
Men’s swimming
NCAA D-III Championships >> UC Santa Cruz’s Kyle Reitan, a sophomore out of Redding, took sixth place in the 50 free at the NCAA Division III Swim and Dive Championships in Greensboro, N.C., on Wednesday. He finished in 19.95 seconds and became the program’s first All-American since the 2016-17.
Men’s tennis
Colorado College 5, at UCSC 2 >> Adam Hidas and Benjamin Wang earned singles wins in straight sets, but the Banana Slugs lost their home match Friday.
Hidas defeated Samuel Dilworth 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4, and Wang beat Mateo Melgar 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
UCSC (4-7) plays at Fresno Pacific (6-4) on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Women’s tennis
Colorado College 5, at UCSC 2 >> Sara Beckman and Meghana Damojipurapu earned singles wins, but the Banana Slugs lost their match Friday,
UCSC (6-5) plays at North Central (9-5) in Naperville, Illinois, on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Cabrillo drops DH >> The Seahawks were swept in a nonconference doubleheader on Friday, losing 7-2 and 9-2 to visiting Folsom Lake.
On the day, the Seahawks’ Bella Fromel had three hits, three stolen bases and a run scored, Morgan DeVillires had three hits, Brooklyn Llamas had two hits, one walk, and two RBI, and Brisea Rivera had a hit, walk, RBI and scored
Charileen Pauneto and Alanna Poklong each had a hit and run scored.
