2028 presidential election

Re “Newsom-Trump feud: Political fuel for 2028” (June 30):

If the Democrats’ candidate for president in the 2028 election is Gavin Newsom, it will clearly be evident how far the party has abandoned the mainstream electorate. Newsom’s political record in California is abysmal. His progressive administrations governance was disastrous. His only “qualification” is his public feud with President Trump. So what!

Assembly Bill 84

Re “AB 84 is an assault on taxpayers and students” (June 29):

Thank you for publishing the article from Jon Coupal exposing the fraudulent Assembly Bill 84. It is a fairly well-veiled bill to wrest school choice options from the students and parents who need and benefit from the charter school learning model. It’s another power grab by the union. Mr. Coupal lays clear the flaws and deception of this bill — well done! In addition to the many problems embedded in this bill that the article describes is the fact that this bill is not subject to a vote of the people of California. Since it dramatically affects so many people — students, parents, teachers and employees, supporting suppliers and contractors — such a measure should be decided by the people, not by a group of politicians, many of whom may well be influenced by political motives that supersede their knowledge and exposure to the workings and performance of this alternative learning environment.

Immigration enforcement

Re “Obama vs. Trump on immigration” (June 29):

I find many of the writer’s facts to be untrue, but there are a few things she is not even considering. First, President Bush didn’t spend his presidency wantonly letting in an extra 12 million people, most of them unvetted. Biden did. In fact, he got them here, fed and housed them, and sent them all over the country on the taxpayer’s dime. If even 10% of them are criminal aliens (and she seems to imply they are not) that is hundreds of thousands of extra drug dealers, pedophiles, human traffickers, rapists, thieves, etc. Why is she pretending they are not? Also, Trump ran on the issue of closing the border and removing illegal immigrants. The people spoke at the ballot box. It is a monumental task, and I couldn’t care less if he is “gloating” for doing a good job.
