A United Airlines flight bound for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was diverted to Wisconsin on Friday night to remove and unruly passenger, officials said.
“United flight 2005 from Chicago to Minneapolis landed safely in Madison, Wisconsin to address a security concern with an unruly passenger,” an airlines spokesperson wrote in an email.
Law enforcement officials on the flight restrained the passenger quickly, according to Carrie Springer, a spokeswoman for the Dane County Regional Airport.
Deputies with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office met the flight when it landed and removed the passenger. Springer said federal authorities are handling the investigation.
The Boeing 737-900 had 147 passengers and six crew aboard. No injuries were reported, according to the airline.
The flight continued its journey and landed in Minneapolis early Saturday morning.

Man, 22, found safe after days in woods
After more than five days spent in the woods of southeastern Winona County, Minn., a 22-year-old Wisconsin man was located Thursday near La Crescent.
A homeowner on Rose Creek Drive saw someone who matched Elijah McCumber’s description and tipped off the sheriff’s office, which had been searching the area for him.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, which sent deputies to the scene, requested help from a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter and K-9 assistance from the Winona Police Department, Houston County Sheriff’s Office and MN-WI K-9 Search and Rescue team.
The La Crescent Police Department and Houston County deputies also assisted at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said McCumber, of La Crosse, was found safe but was tired and hungry.
He was taken to a hospital after being evaluated by Tri-State Ambulance and Nodine and Dakota First Responders.
McCumber was last seen the evening of May 23 on Echo Valley Road near New Hartford.
His disappearance was reported by his family in La Crosse. Law enforcement described him as being in crisis. Daily searches took place in wooded areas after his disappearance, including with a drone.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that people searching had “located signs indicating Eli may be in the area and may be attempting to avoid being found.”
The public was not asked to join the searches for McCumber due to the terrain, McCumber’s mental state and the location of the searches on private property. Landowners were asked to check their property for any signs of him.
Nineteen organizations and agencies helped with the search.
“A special thank you is extended to area residents for searching, providing food, water, and other resources for searchers,” the sheriff’s office stated. “We are grateful for all of the community’s support and especially grateful that Eli was located safe.”
