Volleyball: PV’s setter Dunn gets First Team, as Chico’s Finney, PV’s Sanchez on Third Team

East Nicolaus outside hitter Jadyn Hoffman, a senior playing on the Spartans’ varsity team for a fourth season, led the Spartans to their fourth straight Northern Section title, and was named the All Northern Section Most Valuable Player for a second straight season.

Hoffman finished her senior season with 382 kills, 233 digs and 56 service aces. She had 392 kills as a junior and 492 as a sophomore, and finished her four-year career with 1,542 kills, 244 aces, 32 blocked shots, and 782 digs.

Foothill coach Pablo Iana was named Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to a Northern Section D-II title. The Cougars finished third in the Eastern Athletic League standings, but defeated No. 2 Pleasant Valley 3-2 in the first round of playoffs and the No. 1 seed Shasta 3-1 in the championship match. The Cougars’ season came to an end in the opening round of the CIF D-III state playoffs against Roseville.

In area schools, PV setter Ava Dunn and Orland middle hitter Lilly Rowe received First Team honors; Gridley outside hitter Charlee Sormano and Willows outside hitter Karla Dimaggio received second team honors; and Chico middle hitter Mylee Finney and PV libero Kobi Sanchez received Third Team honors.

All-Northern Section teams are selected by area media members from the Enterprise-Record, Red Bluff Daily News, Redding Record Searchlight, Marysville Appeal-Democrat, Shasta County Sports and MaxPreps.
