A West Covina Fire Department utility truck stolen from a city yard was found in La Puente on Wednesday afternoon.

A suspect was arrested earlier.

The 2002 red Ford pickup was found in the 700 block of Nantes Street with its lights, siren and fire radio intact.

Authorities disabled the radio after the pickup was stolen early Tuesday, West Covina police Lt. Travis Tibbetts said.

Police believe the heavy-duty pickup was stolen between 2 and 7 a.m. Tuesday from the city yard in the 800 block of South Sunset Avenue. The pickup, there for maintenance, was last seen about 2 a.m.

Authorities discovered the pickup had been stolen after the city gas card associated with it turned up in the possession of a homeless man who was stopped in El Monte on Tuesday, the lieutenant said.

The man said he found the gas card and didn’t know anything about the stolen truck, Tibbetts said.

Saul Cruz, 31, was arrested on possession of stolen property and grand-theft auto, the lieutenant said.

It was unclear how he was located. Information from the suspect led police to the missing truck.
