Friday-Sunday: Toast the spring season with a Maifest celebration at Prost Brewing Company, which will tap its distinctive Maibock German-style lager. There will also be live music, traditional Maifest activities and German fare, including schnitzel, bratwurst, soft pretzels and apple strudel. “Rooted in ancient pagan traditions, Maifest … celebrates the arrival of spring,” the brewery said.

A pair of plant sales
Friday-Saturday: Gardeners have a choice of two big, spring plant sales this weekend to get their summer plots going. First, there’s Denver Botanic Gardens’ Spring Plant Sale, which runs 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, at 1007 York St. in Denver. It’s free, but a reservation is required at botanicgardens.org to peruse their flowers, fruits and veggies, and climate-adjusted plants that grow well in our dry state.
There’s also Denver Urban Gardens’ 2025 Spring Plant Sale, another free, two-day event where you can find seedlings, hanging baskets, straw, organic mulch, and seeds, according to DUG. “This year, that includes bestselling strawberries and herbs, plus new sensory/therapeutic varieties,” organizers said. The 10 a.m.-3 p.m. event on May 9 and 10 takes place at 1031 33rd St. in Denver. Note: SNAP recipients can receive free food-producing seeds and seedlings. dug.org/event/spring-plant-sale-2025 — John Wenzel

Humboldt St. in Denver, plus contests, merch, performances and more.

Bruce Lee and Beyond
Throughout May: The films of late 1970s martial artist Bruce Lee, already ageless in their precision, aesthetics and action, have been restored for theaters and are in rotation at Denver Film’s Sie FilmCenter this month. The lineup includes not only classics such as “Fist of Fury” and “Enter the Dragon,” but also films inspired by Bruce Lee’s work, such as Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” volumes wI and II.
The films play at various times at 2510 E. Colfax Ave. in Denver. Screenings are $15 per ticket. Check denverfilm.org for info. — John Wenzel
