The Graphic Arts and Design Technology program offers a dynamic blend of artistic expression and cutting-edge technology.
Students begin their journey with intensive training on Mac OS computers, mastering Adobe design software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. This foundational phase immerses them in a diverse array of tools and techniques while simultaneously teaching the fundamental elements and principles of design.
Brand Identity Project: A deep dive into branding
By the end of the first quarter, students embark on their first significant work-based learning experience: the Brand Identity Project.
This project encourages them to explore branding beyond just logos, prompting them to understand it as a comprehensive experience.
In our visually driven world, branding tells a story, and students are tasked with uncovering and translating that narrative into a compelling visual identity.
The project begins with the creation of a primary vector logo and alternative logo variations, laying the groundwork for their branding exploration.
The creative process
The journey doesn’t stop at logo design. Students engage in a creative process that involves experimenting with typography, color palettes, visual styles, and graphic elements.
They develop brand guidelines and design mock-up packaging and signage templates, simulating the work of industry professionals as they pitch their design concepts.
Reflection and achievement
Once completed, projects are showcased, allowing students to reflect on their work with pride and a sense of accomplishment. This experience not only highlights their technical skills but also marks significant growth in their design capabilities.
In summary, our Graphic Arts and Design Technology program equips students with the tools and knowledge to thrive in the ever-evolving world of design, fostering both creativity and professionalism.
