Farmers Market
Post-Tribune columnist and cookbook author Phil Potempa will bring “Salsa Saturday” to the Crown Point Farmers Market 10 a.m. Saturday on South Main Street. Potempa will host a free cooking demonstration featuring recipes from his cookbook “Further from the Farm.” The Crown Point Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Program to
shed light on Alzheimer’s disease
The Franciscan Accountable Care Organization and the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana Chapter will host seminars to discuss the differences between age-related memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease and how to deal with those who exhibit signs of the ailments. The Basics, Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday on the lower level of Franciscan Health, 301 W. Homer St., Michigan City; at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 in conference rooms B and C on the first floor of the Franciscan Physician Network Administration Building, 757 45th St., Munster; and at 9 a.m. Aug. 17 in the Marian Education Center at Franciscan Health, 1201 S. Porter County Park District programs
Porter County Park District has two upcoming programs. Terrific Turtles, a free hike to explore turtle habitats, will be from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 N. Lake Station community events
Safety Day will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Park, 2701 Ridley St., Lake Station. The event includes free school supplies and safety demonstrations. A Free Movie in the Park, “Book of Life,” will begin at dusk Tuesday at Lake Station City Hall, 1969 Central Ave. Concessions will be available. Teachers get free rides on South Shore
To show appreciation for teachers, the South Shore Line is welcoming local educators to ride the train for free from Monday through Aug. 13 on off-peak weekday and all weekend trains. Free lactation clinic for new mothers
A Breastfeeding Support Group will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Community Hospital, 901 MacArthur Blvd., Munster. New moms can drop in at any time during the four hours for a lactation consultation or a baby weight check without an appointment. Valet parking available at no charge.
