52 year Resident of Santa Cruz
A private family mass was celebrated in Santa Cruz for Fidela Mercado who passed away at Stanford Hospital at the age of 55, following abrave battle she fought with cancer. Her loving family was at her bedside when she passed.
Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Fidela came to Santa Cruz in 1973 at the age of 3with her family. One of 8children, her parents and her siblings all made the journey with her, and reside here in Santa Cruz County.
For more than 34 years, Fidela was employed with the Superior Court of Santa Cruz as a court coordinator. She felt truly blessed by the many dear friends and colleagues whose friendships she cherished throughout her career at the courthouse.
A homebody at heart, Fidela loved spending time with all of her family. She enjoyed long walks and movies when not engaged with her many nieces and nephews that she loved to benear. She will be remembered by all of them for her enduring spirit and Catholic Faith as she battled cancer for many years. Her personality which made a rainy day feel like sunshine and unique sense of humor never wavered through her final days.
Fidela leaves her mother and father Fidela and Apolinar Mercado of Santa Cruz and her seven brothers and sisters and their families. Her funeral mass was held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and she was laid to rest at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
