Earlier this week, Woodland City Councilmember Mayra Vega announced that Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA) has endorsed her campaign for Supervisor.
“Mayra is a dedicated community leader who has consistently put her service to others above herself,” Thompson stated. “She has spent her time on the Woodland City Council fighting for housing affordability and affordable childcare opportunities, and will continue to work in the best interest of local families as a Supervisor. I am proud to support her and know she will continue to do great things for her community as a Supervisor.”Vega was first elected to the Woodland City Council in 2020 and reelected in 2024, running on a platform that included making housing more affordable, increasing access to behavioral health services to help homeless individuals off the streets, protecting farmland, and enhancing water sustainability.
Vega publicly announced her campaign in a newsletter on July 1, stating that she wants to represent the residents of the district.
She, along with former Woodland Mayor Xóchitl Rodriguez Murillo, announced that they would both be running for the seat currently held by Mary Vixie Sandy, who had announced that she would not seek reelection in 2026.
“Yolo County families are struggling with high housing and childcare costs, which makes it difficult for our community to get ahead,” said Councilmember Vega. “I will continue to advocate for affordable childcare and housing on the Board of Supervisors because our local families matter. I am honored to have the support of Congressman Thompson, and will never stop fighting for the future of Yolo County.”
