Hoots Wings, Hooters’ fast-casual chicken wing eatery, closed its Orange location in early February, surviving 14 months after opening.
A sign posted on the Chapman Avenue restaurant door by “the Wings team” reads, in part, “To our valued customers and community: With a heavy heart, we must announce that Hoots Wings is closing. Due to rising costs of food and labor, it has become difficult to continue operations.”
A far more modest business model compared to the famed “breastaurant” known for its wings, beer and waitresses donning revealing outfits, Hoots Wings offered a more family-friendly affair, hiring both female and male servers who wear T-shirts and khakis.
Hoots also lends itself to app-delivery services, offering items like chicken wings, fries and tots, similarly served at its parent company.
The business model, created in 2017, was an attempt to offset stagnation at Hooter restaurants, according to Business Insider, a trend still affecting many sit-down, casual-dining chains as of late.
The outlook on the few remaining Hoots Wings locations remains unclear; the company’s most recent Instagram post dates to January 2024. Hoots Wings had locations in Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago and California; according to the company’s website, today only three eateries remain in Pasadena; Cicero, Illinois; and Chicago.
Calls to its Pasadena location went unanswered.
No word yet what, if anything, will move into the site of the former Hoots Wings in Orange.
