The Milwaukee Brewers stole nine bases in Sunday’s 14-1 victory over the Athletics to break the team’s 33-year-old record for steals in a game.
All of them came in the first four innings. Six were swiped in the first, the first time in the expansion era a team stole that many bases in an inning.
“That’s the game we play,” said Brice Turang, who had three of the steals to increase his season total to eight. “So we’ve just got to keep playing it.”
According to Elias Sports Bureau, no team had stolen as many as six bases in one inning since the expansion era started in 1961. A team has stolen five bases in an inning 13 times since 1961, most recently by Cincinnati against Colorado on April 19, 2016.
Sportradar said the Brewers were the first team to steal six bases in an inning since Aug. 26, 1919, when the New York Giants had six steals in the third inning of a game against Pittsburgh.
Padres’ Arraez taken to hospital after collision
San Diego’s Luis Arraez was taken to a hospital after being carted off following a collision with Mauricio Dubón on a play at first base against the Houston Astros.
“He is currently stable, conscious, responsive, and able to move his extremities,” the Padres posted on X.
Arraez hit a drag bunt on the first pitch of his at-bat, grounding it down the first base line to Christian Walker, who flipped it to second baseman Dubón, who ran over to cover first. As Dubón covered the base, he collided with Padres designated hitter Arraez, who appeared to hit Dubón’s arm or elbow with his face.
Arraez took the worst of it, laying motionless in foul territory next to first base as trainers and coaches from both teams came out to tend to him.

Outfielder Brandon Marsh was placed on the 10-day injured list by the Philadelphia Phillies because of a strained right hamstring.
Philadelphia made the move retroactive to Thursday, a day after Marsh felt discomfort in the back of his right knee extending into the hamstring during a game.

The injury when Conine dove headfirst into second base on an RBI double. He immediately clutched his left arm and left the game with a trainer.

New father Ohtani returns to lineup
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts welcomed Shohei Ohtani back to his lineup, speculating that “dad strength” could lead to unprecedented exit velocity from the two-way star’s already imposing bat.
Instead, Roberts said Ohtani appeared “a little anxious,” going 0 for 3 with a walk in the Dodgers’ 1-0 win over the Texas Rangers.
The 30-year-old Ohtani was activated off the paternity list after his wife gave birth to the couple’s first child.
