A teacher with decades of experience was recently recognized for celebrating her 80th birthday.

However, it’s probably the 52 years of teaching at Holy Rosary School for which she will long be remembered by hundreds of students.

Mary Pappas “is a cherished member of the Holy Rosary Catholic School community,” who recently celebrated “her remarkable 80th birthday and an impressive 52 years of dedicated service,” according to Holy Rosary Office Manager Brenda Fechter.

“Her journey at the school began over five decades ago when she started as a kindergarten aide,” Fechter reported, “a role she embraced with warmth and commitment for more than 15 years. Her deep connection with the students and staff has made her a beloved figure in the school.”

Holy Rosary is located on California Street and is adjacent to the new Holy Rosary Catholic Church, which is still under construction.

During her 80th birthday celebration at Holy Rosary, Pappas was presented with a bright pink sash, a blue and white cake, which she shared with students, staff, and Holy Rosary Father Jonathan Molina, as well as saw her classroom decorated.

Virtually everything commemorated Pappas’ 80th.

Presently, Pappas shows no signs of slowing down. She serves as the Extended Day Program director, overseeing both the morning and afternoon sessions, according to Fechter.

“In this capacity, she continues to provide a nurturing and safe environment for students beyond regular school hours,” Fechter stated. “Additionally, Mary plays a pivotal role in the religious education of second-grade students, preparing them for their First Communion. Her dedication to fostering both academic and spiritual growth in the children is a testament to her unwavering commitment to the school’s mission.

“Mary’s enduring presence and contributions have left an indelible mark on the Holy Rosary Catholic School community, embodying the values of faith, service, and love that the institution holds dear,” Fechter noted.
