We are going to have to trust each other

Has anyone noticed that our legal system is very involved in “trial by money”? Trump’s mindset of just-fight-in-our-complex-system-of-laws-with-an-army-of-lawyers-until-your-opponent-is-exhausted-by-your-wealth has worked well for him.

Our legal system, at its core, is not interested in what is actually true, but is more interested in who won. If the judge or jury were convinced by the lawyers involved, then that is what is true … but obviously not the actual truth in some cases.

Many have said that our democratic system is not perfect but it’s the system that is still the best that we have come up with compared with any other democratic solutions.

Be that as it may, serious structural flaws have been found due to an interloper in our democracy. We have an opportunity to fix this.

We exist in a new world wherein anything that gains attention in the mediums/platforms has traction. Resisting the seduction of just wanting to believe in something … anything … is difficult for all of us to resist, especially stuff that appeals to our emotions.

But we are called to resist our tribalism in this moment.

We are going to have to trust each other in the end.
