DUI/ Traffic Collision: On June 26 at around 3 p.m. officers investigated a traffic collision involving a vehicle driven by 66-year-old Woodland resident Michael Martin near the 700 Block of College Street. Martin’s vehicle collided into a parked car. Martin evaluated and arrested for driving under the influence. He was booked into jail.
DUI/ Traffic Collision: On June 26 at around 4 p.m., officers investigated a two-vehicle traffic collision on East Main Street and Matmor Road. One of the drivers, Derek Catron, a 28-year-old Woodland resident was evaluated and arrested for driving under the influence. He was booked into jail.
Possession of controlled substance: On June 27 at around 3:45 p.m., a traffic enforcement officer was in the area of County Road 98 and County Road 25A monitoring traffic for speed. He witnessed a 2005 Nissan Altima traveling at 71 MPH in a marked 55 MPH roadway traveling northbound on County Road 98. A traffic stop was initiated. K-9 Officer Shepard and his K-9 partner Ricky arrived on scene as cover. During the stop, K-9 Ricky alerted to the presence of a controlled substance inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and 400 grams of Methamphetamine along with 16.1 grams of cocaine were located. The driver, 28-year-old Oakland resident Miglan Escoto-Canaca, and passenger, 30-year-old Oakland resident Denilson Archaga-Andino were both arrested on scene. Escoto-Canaca was booked into jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), conspiracy, speeding, and driving without a license. Archaga-Andino was booked into jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), and conspiracy.
Shooting: On June 28 at around 3 p.m., officers responded to the area of Mariposa Street and W. Woodland Avenue and investigated a possible shooting. The investigation showed that two male juveniles had an argument and one brandished a handgun and fired it. Both juveniles fled the scene. A 9mm casing was found during the investigation. Officers later identified the suspect, a 15-year-old Woodland resident. On 6/29/23 at 3:22 p.m. the shooting suspect was contacted during a car stop. The juvenile fled from officers but was quickly apprehended. Once in custody, he was verbally abusive and began spitting on officers. He was booked into juvenile hall with charges of attempted murder, brandishing a firearm, willful discharge of a firearm in a negligent manner, violation of probation, felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition and three counts of resisting/obstructing officers.
HOST
HOST met with community members and city officials to evaluate and coordinate a site cleanup.
HOST has continued to assist patrol in filling shift shortages. Host was short-staffed this week.
HOST made three contacts, and offered services to two of them of which one accepted service. There were five camps located and one location was cleaned up. There were three downtown patrols and two business contacts made.
