Liberty flag football player Shyanne Smith is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week, and Mt. Pleasant football player Andrew Tafoya is the boys athlete of the week for Oct. 28 to Nov. 2.
In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Smith finished with 38.15% of the votes. Menlo School flag football player Ellie Knoll placed second with 37.97%.
In the boys poll, Tafoya had 44.23% to finish ahead of Christopher football player Terrence Barnes, who finished just behind at 36.55%.
Smith threw five touchdown passes in a victory over BVAL rival Freedom. The Lions finished the week with a 17-1 record on the season.
Tafoya had a 70-yard touchdown reception and a 35-yard pick-six to lead Mt. Pleasant to a 36-0 win over Evergreen Valley. Mt. Pleasant is 4-5, 4-1 and finishes the regular season on Friday at Hill.
