A 41-year-old man was charged this week with murder tied to a fight last month in Pomona when a San Gabriel Valley man was injured and later died.

Police don’t believe a weapon was used during the March 26 fight that happened on a sidewalk on Short Street, south of Holt Avenue, said Aly Mejia, a spokeswoman for Pomona police. It was unclear what started the afternoon brawl.

Two men were involved in the fight, police said, with the victim falling and left unconscious. The suspect, Oliver Jacobs Jr. of Pomona, walked away, police said.

The victim, 35-year-old Ricardo Sanchez Delgado, died April 4 from complications resulting from blunt-force head trauma, according to the medical examiner’s office. Officials say he lived in either La Puente or El Monte.

Police didn’t reveal how detectives identified Jacobs, arrested April 26 in Pomona, as the suspect.

Jacobs, charged Tuesday, was being held without the possibility of bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles as of Wednesday morning.

Police asked anyone with information about the case to call them at 909-622-1241. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go to lacrimestoppers.org.
