You have questions. I have some answers.

Q What is the current count of EGOT winners — those who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony? I’ve read and heard anything from 19 to 23 around the time of Elton John’s entry on the list.

A Confusion about the number of EGOTs is understandable, since there are different ways of counting them. Some count special awards and honorary prizes, creating an EGOT list of 27 people. Others argue, as Paul Grein did in Billboard not long ago, that the tallied awards should be “in competition,” which would shorten the list to 21 EGOT-ists.

Even then, Grein griped that the Tony Awards “dole out producer credits far too liberally,” with one show crediting 40 producers, making an EGOT easier. And some question whether daytime and sports Emmys should count, or only prime-time Emmys. Cynthia Erivo can join the EGOT ranks on March 2 if she wins the best actress Oscar for her role of Elphaba in “Wicked.”

Q During the late 1960s there was a movie called “Popi” with Rita Moreno. I don’t remember the name of her male co-star, but I do recall him in “The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming.” I’ve been trying to obtain a DVD of the film with no success. Can you help me?

A The movie “Popi” starred Alan Arkin — whom you remember from “The Russians Are Coming” — as a Puerto Rican widower seeking a better life for his sons. (Arkin, a much-admired actor who died in 2023, was also an Oscar winner for best supporting actor, for “Little Miss Sunshine.”) I have seen it for sale on DVD on Amazon. It is also available for streaming on the Roku Channel and for rent and purchase digitally on Fandango at Home and Apple TV.

Q I was wondering if the 1950s movie “Patterns” with Van Heflin, Ed Begley Sr. and Everett Sloane (as a ruthless company CEO) is available on DVD.

A The 1956 movie is on DVD and Blu-ray, and I have seen it for sale on Amazon and Movies Unlimited, with Amazon also having a digital rental and purchase.
