Aptos High freshman Jonathan Espinoza, sophomore Ryder Yamaguchi, and seniors Colin Dagnall, and Dylan Guisado teamed up for first place in the boys’ 4×100 Unified relay on the opening day of the 105th CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High in Clovis on Friday.

The Mariners’ quartet finished in 46.70 seconds. Trabuco Hills (47.58) took second and Pioneer Valley (47.76) was third.

Unified events feature one student receiving special education services paired with a partner.

The Mariners finished with three unified state titles.

Aptos senior Izzy Graff (12.89) and freshman Mary-Anne MaCarthy (13.57) teamed for first place in the girls’ 100-meter unified race. They had a combined time of 26.46.

Mariners sophomore Ryder Yamaguchi (11.71) and freshman Jonathan Espinoza (12.09) teamed for first in the boys’ 100 unified race. They had a combined time of 23.80.

“This was our first year sending kids in the unified section and it was such an amazing experience,” said Mariners coach Cerah Moran. “The kids were so supportive of one another throughout the whole process and it led to all of them running personal bests at state. I’m beyond proud of their success.”

Watsonville freshman Ricardo Lopez-Ramirez took sixth in the boys’ para shot put (15-5.5).

Lopez-Ramirez also competes in the 100 and 200 para races on Saturday.

Watsonville senior Noah Lechuga took seventh in the boys’ shot put unified (34-7.75) and sophomore teammate Alejandro Riquelme was 12th (30-0.25).Santa Cruz senior and Duke-committed star Eli Fitchen-Young competes in the 3,200 final on Saturday at 9:35 p.m. He ran a personal best and school record (8:56.43) in the distance at the Dublin Distance Fiesta on March 21.

Aptos senior Logan Brantley took sixth out 32 throwers in the shot put prelims with a distance of 56-11 to advance to Saturday’s final. He threw a personal best and school record (58-10) at the Sacramento Meet of Champions on April 26.

“Today was very hot nearly a 100, so that definitely affected everyone,” said Brantley, who will compete for UC Davis next year. “Still, I had a great competition, qualifying on my last throw with my third-best throw of all-time. All in all, a great prelim. I’m getting ready for tomorrow and an amazing environment for throws.”

Clovis North senior McKay Madsen had the top throw in qualifying (67-5.75). The top 12 throwers advanced to the final.

Watsonville senior Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar took 18th out of 22 athletes in the triple jump with a distance of 44-9. He broke his personal best and school record distance (46-4.75) at last weekend’s Central Coast Section Championships, but was unable to crack the top 12 and make the final.

Cajon senior Keith Cotlage posted the top mark (50-4.75) during qualifying.

Scotts Valley junior Ava Decleve (800), who announced her commitment to UCLA on social media on Tuesday, took 15th out of 30 qualifiers in the 800 in 2:11.00, her second-best time in the distance.

The top 12 runners advanced to the final, which made 2:10.59 the cutoff. J. Serra senior Anne Elise Packard posted the fastest time in qualifying (2:08.25).

Decleve set a PR with the second-fastest mark in Falcons’ history (2:09.56) to win the CCS title last week. Her best time from her sophomore season was 2:18.85.
