Northwest Indiana schools will receive official ISTEP+ scores Friday after technical issues delayed the original release this week.
However, it is not yet known when the state will release scores to the public, Indiana Department of Education spokesman Adam Baker said in an email.
Last week, Pearson reported to state officials it had found two issues that delayed Tuesday’s release date: its ability to score a 10th-grade math graphing question and reconciling student data on tests spanning third through eighth grades and grade 10.
Affected tests are being rescored, officials said. Children in third through eighth grades and in 10th grade are tested each year. Results partly help determine a school’s accountability grade.
Charity Flores, director of assessment for the Indiana Department of Education, told the State Board of Education on Wednesday that up to 22,000 10th-graders statewide could be affected. If a portion have their math scores invalidated, they could be required to retake the test to graduate.
High school students graduating in years 2019 to 2022 are required to pass the ISTEP+ to graduate unless they have a waiver to meet it with other requirements.
On Wednesday, the State Board of Education stated in a resolution that schools could include students that took the test with invalidated scores, so that their testing participation rate was not skewed.
Schools will later have the option to appeal accountability grades. A-F accountability grades are expected to be released during the state board’s Nov. 14 meeting.
