Ryan Rakowski is certainly off to an impressive start to his high school career.
As a freshman, the Palos Verdes quarterback led the way to an undefeated regular season.
This season as a sophomore, Rakowski led the Sea Kings to a memorable year of championships. PV won the CIF Southern Section Division 5 championship, a CIF SoCal Regional Division 2-AA title and capped the season winning the CIF State bowl game in which he threw six touchdown passes.
“I don’t know if one game changes for him from another,” PV coach Guy Gardner said this season about Rakowski. “He’s a competitor. I just think he attacks every game as big.”
Rakowski, the Daily Breeze football player of the year, certainly went big this season. He finished with 34 touchdowns (24 passing, 10 rushing) and nearly 3,500 yards of total offense (2,809 passing yards, 673 rushing).
Before the CIF-SS final, Gardner spoke about Rakowski’s growth from his freshman year to his sophomore year.
“I think sometimes maybe he’s tried to do even more …His nature is obviously to be the best he can and be a competitor, but sometimes maybe because of some things we’re struggling with, he puts a lot on his shoulders to do even more. I think he’s realized that now, he’s finding that balance. When to do that and when (know) that not every play is going to be fantastic, some are, but we just have to get what we can out of that one and go to the next one.
“He was pretty mature and ahead of the curve last year, but I think this year has been even more beneficial to him and for us.”
